The Families Autism And Behavioural Support Trust.
Supporting Waikato families who have a child on the autism spectrum or a child facing challenges leading to behaviour that makes access to mainstream education problematic.
Families Autism And Behavioural Support Trust – we call it the FAST Trust – was established in July 2010 to support families in the greater Waikato region who have a child with Autistic Spectrum Disorder or a related disorder.
The Trust’s initial focus was on assisting families with the costs associated with having clinics run by the Centre for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) and paying wages to therapists working with the children at home. We have added a schools support programme. This leads to the in-home programme being extended to the children’s school day as well as support being provided to the schools so other children who would not otherwise receive the therapy they need are able to participate more fully in the learning programme.
The Hamilton primary and secondary schools we support have, in total, more than 5,000 pupils.
